Demand

All types of Cheviot ewe lambs were in demand, including Wicklow Cheviots and Cheviot-crosses, with another five or six lots exceeding €300 per head for strong ewe lambs weighing upwards of 48kg.

Approximately 17% of the 690 head on offer sold from €300 to €400 per head, with the general run of these top-quality lots from €300 to €345.

Another 21% of sheep on offer sold from €250 to €295, with over 45% of lambs on offer selling from €200 to €245.

This left just 15% of the sale below the €200/head mark and selling from €150 to €195/head.

There was also a rapid demand for nice-quality Suffolk ewe lambs bred from Mule ewes in the sale recording a 100% clearance, with a good run of lambs weighing from 43kg to 48kg selling from €230 to €260 per head.
