The Donegal Mule Group is putting the final plans in place for its 10th sale since the group was established in 2016. According to group member Adrian Gallagher, the sale of 1,500 mule ewe lambs and ewe hoggets marks a significant milestone – with group participation and interest in the breed continuing to grow.
Gallagher says: “Producer groups play an important role in improving the marketing potential of stock, but also have a strong social element and generate increased interest. The Donegal Mule Group has grown its customer base and has successfully run a second sale in Carnew Mart, which takes place on 19 September. Friendly rivalry has witnessed quality improve annually and is generating more interest from younger members, which is vital for the future of the sheep sector.”
