This year’s Athlone agricultural show took place over the weekend and was met with some very unpleasant weather. However, the wet weather wasn’t enough to deter some diehard show people who stuck it out until the interbreed championships were judged at the end of the day.

Two showmen happy of their wait were William Smith and Garrett Behan who claimed all the top places across the three interbreed classes.

Overall prize

Securing the overall interbreed, junior male interbreed and junior female interbreed was William Smith of Oldcastle with his renowned Milbrook Limousin herd.

Taking the overall championship was Milbrook Nelenya. This January 2018-born heifer is no stranger to success having claimed the overall breed and reserve interbreed championship at last month’s Balmoral Show. Sired by Wilodge Vantastic, she goes back on a Neuf-bred cow.

Taking the junior male interbreed championship was the September 2018-born Milbrook Noticeable. This powerful young bull is sired by Huntershall Gladiator and also secured a red ribbon at Dundalk Show.

Closing out the interbreed championships, Smith won the junior heifer class with Milbrook Nighty Night. This stylish heifer is a daughter of well-known Plumtree Fantastic and out of a Milbrook impressive-bred first calver.

Reserve

Having to settle for reserve in all three interbreed classes was well-known exhibitor Garrett Behan of the Clonagh Simmental herd. Taking reserve overall interbreed champion was the rising two-year-old Clonagh Jenny Fabulous. This first-time shown heifer is sired by Clonagh World Class while the dam goes back to three-time Tullamore champion Banwy T-Rex.

In the bull interbreed class, reserve spot went to Jennalyn Knick Knack. This bull is a son of former stock bull Kilbride Farm Dragoon with the dam Jennalyn Flora Nora.

Finally, finishing off the trio of reserves, Clonagh Krystal took the reserve junior heifer interbreed. This stylish September-born heifer is also sired by Dragoon and goes back to a Tiger Gallant-bred dam.
