A jeep found during a joint operation by local gardaí and the specialist vehicle theft squad in Granard, Co Longford, last month has been identified as the Toyota Hi-Lux stolen from a farm in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, on 27 February.

The jeep was stolen during the snowstorm while a farmer was attending a sick animal, the source said. It was professionally cloned with a new chassis number and matching Northern Ireland number plates, but its owner has recognised it.

Further investigations in Granard led to the discovery of a New Holland TM155 reported stolen in England. Gardaí estimate the value of the tractor to be €25,000 and that of the jeep to be €13,000.

Although no arrests have been made yet, investigators said they were following a definite line of Inquiry.
