A large crowd attended the NI Charolais spring show and sale in Dungannon on Friday, with strong demand throughout. A total of 39 bulls went through the ring with a solid 82% clearance rate and the average price standing at over £3,400.

The trade was led by a top call of 6,200gns for reserve supreme champion Ratoary Ourboy. Bred by the McGovern family, this October 2018-born bull stood first in his class, junior male champion and reserve overall male champion before being tapped out as reserve supreme. Carrying two copies of the Q204X gene, this Mountgomery Lanto-sired bull is out of a Mozart-bred dam.

Taking the supreme championship ahead of Ourboy was Drumleagagh Odin from John Elliot. This bull took the fancy of judge Martin Donaghy, who awarded him senior male, overall male and supreme champion. This Tweeddale Lookout son is out of a Deeleview Classick-bred cow and hit the market at 4,900gns.

Next highest at a price of 4,300gns was the second prizewinning Woodpark Orion from Will Short. This August 2018-born bull is sired by bull Invictus and out of the homebred Woodpark Leanne.

The very first bull into the ring, Brigadoon Orbit, got the sale off to a flying start, selling for 4,200gns. Bred and exhibited by David Connolly, this April 2018-born third prize-winner is sired by Brampton Petition.
