Special sales of in-calf heifers have seen excpetional demand with prices as far as £3,500.

The annual consignment of in-calf heifers and suckler outfits from Roland Hadden saw an outstanding trade from start to finish at Markethill Mart last Thursday.
In total, 40 in-calf heifers sold to a top price of £2,450 on two occasions, up from a peak of £2,200 on last year. Prices averaged £2,120 across the 40 lots. In addition, 18 lots with calves at foot averaged £2,400.

On Friday evening, Swatragh Mart held a special sale of 42 in-calf heifers with prices topping out at £3,000 for a January-2018 born Limousin heifer due to calve in late-November. The sale averaged £2,163.
In Ballymena, an entry of 120 first- and second-calving heifers from Jason Sawyers sold to a top price of £3,500.
