A Co Waterford farmer is facing a bill of more than €830,000 from the Revenue Commissioners for underdeclaration of Capital Gains Tax (CGT).

James Doherty from Ballyrobin, Ferrybank, Co Waterford, was listed in the latest tax defaulters list issued by the Revenue Commissioners.

He was issued with a penalty of €839,110 by the courts relating to an underdeclaration of CGT to the amount of €1,118,814.

A Westmeath farmer and landlord was listed for a total bill of €256,947.

Sean Flanagan from Lakenstown, Ballynacargy, Co Westmeath, owned €179,012 in tax, plus €24,230 in interest and €54,705 in penalties for underdeclaration of CGT, VAT and income tax.

The latest list of tax defaulters refers to the period from 1 October 2016 to 31 December 2016.

Colm O Murchu, a farmer and agricultural contractor from Monadrishane, Kilworth, Co Cork, was issued with a penalty of €47,579 for underdeclaration of VAT.

The latest tax defaulters list features 12 farmers and two agricultural contractors who failed to lodge income tax returns.

Fines ranging from €1,250 to €3,000 were issued by the Revenue for those 14 individuals.

One Sligo farmer was fined €3,000 for failure to lodge VAT returns, while three farmers were fined €2,500 to €4,000 for misuse of marked mineral oil (green diesel).
