A virtual open evening is being held by The Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship on Wednesday 4 May at 5:30pm. Registration is now open for the online event and anyone interested in learning about their options when it comes to “earning as you learn” in the field of insurance is encouraged to attend.

The Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship first launched in September 2016, and was Ireland's first 'earn and learn' honours degree programme. The Government-funded apprenticeship (students pay only €600 in registration fees annually) is run in partnership with The Insurance Institute, Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Sligo and the Life Insurance Association (LIA).

Put on in partnership with LIA, The Insurance Institute believes this will serve as an opportunity “for attendees to gain a real insight and valuable information about the programme for those involved.”

This programme comprises of full-time work for an insurance employer with one day each week devoted to online lectures, run in partnership with ATU Sligo . Apprentices will gain real on-the-job experience, while obtaining a Level-8 qualification (a BA Hons in Insurance Practise).

Dermot Murray, CEO, The Insurance Institute, says this is something they’ve wanted to do for many years.

“The event will be hosted online so as to provide people from all around the country access and it will give those interested in pursuing a career in insurance a real insight into the apprenticeship. The programme is this year celebrating its seventh year and I am delighted to say that it continues to go from strength to strength – it has managed to bring an influx of new talent into our industry and provides apprentices with an exceptional opportunity whereby they achieve a third-level qualification and build a sustainable career.”

Joanne Keane, CEO of LIA, says the event will be vital for anyone interested in the world of insurance.

“The programme equips apprentices with the necessary hard and soft skills required for a career in finance, and ensures their learning is always applicable to their day-to-day work, as well as to trends that are coming down the line. The apprenticeship is ensuring the industry is prepared for the future, while at the same time, offering the apprentices themselves a unique opportunity for an exciting and interesting career.”
