Legal Action, a March 14 born bull, was placed first in the pre-sale show as well as claiming Reserve Overall champion at the Irish Angus All-Irelands held in Strokestown last September. Sired by the renowned Tivanagh Barron and back to Lawsonsford Bagatelle this bull sold for €4,500 to the 80 cow pedigree herd of Ben and Elaine Ryall, Fellfort Angus, Watergrasshill, Co Cork.

This was followed by €4,000 for the January born Lecarrow Larry for breeder Pat Murphy of Charlestown, Co Mayo. This powerful Ballycaher Maker son found a home in Cork for new owners Michael and Joe Twomey who run the Fermoyle pedigree Angus herd.

Molloy Lord Hardcore P190 was tapped forward by judge of the day Thomas Rea as the pre-sale champion for breeders Brian & Mary Faughnan, Bornacoola, Co.Leitrim. This April 14 born bull was sired by the three time All-Ireland champion Rosemead Karona J957 and changed hands at €3,000. Standing reserve was class 3 winner lot.40 Lavally Liam Og bred by well-known breeders John and Mary Mullooly. This Netherton Mr. Radar son met his reserve and sold on the day for €3,200.

Overall trade for Angus was sticky with an average of €2,200 and a clearance of over 80%.

Onto the heifers and it was the pre-sale champion who claimed the top price of €3,300. This one Drummullian Kate K651 bred by Padraig McGrath, Elphin, was sired by KBJ Jetta and sold in calf to AI bull Steil Hero.

Reserve honours went to Tom Reynolds of Johnston's Bridge, Co. Leitrim, for lot.104 Lisnacoghill Kathy. A Rockland’s Eddie daughter who on the day failed to meet her reserve.

In the Hereford ring judge Henry Dudley tapped Sean Kilranes Drumboy Suarez forward as the overall champion. Sired by popular AI bull Kilsunny Goliath also went on to claim the top Hereford price of the day at €3,000. Of the 8 Hereford bulls on offer, 5 found new homes to average €2,280.

Hereford heifers met good trade on the day with a complete clearance and an averaged €2,020. It was the pre-sale champion Kye Holly 646 who claimed the top price of €3,000 for Padraig McGrath, Elphin. Kye 661 pen companion to the champion stood reserve and claimed second top price at €2650 again for Padraig McGrath.

In a tidy Shorthorn turnout, it was Rockville Arran who claimed the top spot under judge Thomas Rea. Bred by Anthony Dockery, Elphin this one was by homebred bull Rockville Rowanberry and out of a Bethlehem Zenith 1st bred dam. Reserve championship was taken by lot.148 Ardnaskea Rolo who later went on to get Top price shorthorn bull at €1500 for breeder Patrick O’Hehir of Inagh, Co Clare.

Only one of the three shorthorn heifers on offer changed hands and this was Driney Cracker for €1,900. Bred by Patrick Regan and Exhibited by Thomas Regan this one was crowned Reserve overall champion on the day and sired by the well-known Cregga Dice.
