Detailed below are the top three prices achieved for different sheep breeds at public auction.

Texel

Topping the sheep sales at €15,000 was the high seller from the Texel premier.

Selling for the fourth-highest price at a Texel premier was a ram lamb from Neville Myles’ Silver Hill flock based in Ballyshannon, Co Donegal.

This January-born ram is steeped with a top-priced pedigree, with his sire Strathbogie Yes Sir selling for £60,000 and his grandsire Castlecairn Vavavoom making a notable 38,000gns.

A firm favourite with breeders in attendance, the Silver Hill pen seemed to have a crowd surrounding it throughout the two-day event. Securing the high-seller was Northern Ireland breeder Danny McKay.

Suffolk

At the Suffolk premier, a top price of €4,200 was achieved. Seamus Browne secured the price with his late-December-born ram lamb. He secured the reserve male championship at the society’s national finals in Kilkenny during the summer. Sired by the 13,000gns Lakeview Heart of Gold, the sale-topper goes back to one of the best lines in the Bailey flock.

Charollais

Leading the way for the Charollais breed was the premier sale champion from the Cork team of Jim and Frampton Jeffery with their Bawnard flock.

Their smart ram lamb by Fiddawn Fiddler ticked all the boxes for Welsh judge Brian Davies who runs the Honddhu flock. Having come out in front of a very competitive ram lamb class, the stylish Bawnard pick went on to claim the male and supreme championships of the premier. Later in the day, he changed hands at €2,600.
