Trailer marking is a free service offered to farmers to help prevent theft and has been run for a number of years across Northern Ireland. The trailers are stencilled with a unique barcode which makes it less attractive to thieves and helps police quickly establish the legitimate owner of the vehicle.

The trailer owner’s details and ID mark are recorded and held on a PSNI database which can then be checked if seen in a location at a time that’s unusual.

Strabane event

The PSNI has announced that the next trailer marking event will take place on Saturday 8 June at the animal feeds merchant Taylors of Fyfin near the village of Victoria Bridge, Strabane. These events are very well attended by trailer owners, and it has been advised that the public book a time slot.

Sgt David McIlwain from Strabane PSNI told the Irish Farmers Journal: “Having the trailers marked has been a great way to deter these criminals away and ultimately prevent theft. Farmers feel much safer having their trailers on the PSNI database, with peace of mind their property won’t disappear without trace.”

The event will run from 10am to 4pm. To book a place call: Karen 028-71 379834; Ryan 0750-090 4378.
