Two hands-on training days for women in agriculture in northwest

Two practical training days for women in farming take place in Manorhamilton this autumn, run by the ACRES Breifne Co-operation Project.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

The first training day is on Saturday 5 September at Manorhamilton Mart.

It will cover livestock handling, farm safety and farm technology.

The second is a machinery demonstration day on Saturday 17 October at the FutureCast Centre, Manorhamilton.

Both run from 10am to 3pm.

Practical focus

Both days are hands-on and are designed to support women involved in farming by building confidence, developing practical skills and creating opportunities to network with other women.

Women will spend the day working with stock, machinery and equipment, alongside others doing the same job on their own farms.

"Women are doing this work every day and the questions they ask us are practical ones," said Rachel Irwin, operations officer with the ACRES Breifne Co-operation Project.

"Handling stock safely on your own, knowing your way around a piece of machinery before you need it. That is what these two days are built around. There is also time to meet other women farming nearby, which people tell us is worth as much as the training itself."
