Members of the Young Farmers’ Clubs of Ulster enjoyed their first residential trip since 2019 at the Carlingford Adventure Centre for its junior weekend 2022.

The YFCU is the largest voluntary rural youth organisation in rural Northern Ireland. The group represents young people aged from 13 to 30 and has over 3,000 members across a network of 51 clubs. Junior weekend is a chance for younger members to meet and network with other rurally-based, young farmers.

The activity-packed weekend was led by YFCU president Peter Alexander; vice presidents Shannen Vance and Richard Beattie; Holestone YFC treasurer Clara McConnell; Holestone public relations officer Laura Patterson and Kilraughts YFC senior member Lauren McNeill.

Activities included standup paddleboarding on Carlingford Harbour, swimming, axe and spear throwing, competing in a crystal maze challenge, archery, a quiz and team games.

YFCU president Peter Alexander said these weekends are a great opportunity for junior members to learn more about the organisation and meet new friends.

“The juniors are the future of our organisation and it’s great to see them away on weekends like this having fun and grasping the opportunities YFCU has to offer.”

The Young Farmers Clubs of Ulster has extended thanks to Danske Bank for its support, as well as the YFCU leaders who took time out of their weekend to ensure all juniors had fun and returned home safely.
