The Currans run a 460-cow dairy herd, all of which are currently calving. They had 52% of their cows calved down when the Irish Farmers Journal arrived last Thursday, with about 15 cows calving each day. Cows are milked in a 60-unit rotary parlour. Both lads spent their day experiencing the daily activities on busy dairy farms across the country this spring. This marks the first of a six-part series which will document a full day’s events on farms across different farming enterprises.
