Michael Keating’s October 2017 born bull Kickhams Jupiter took the honours in the Agricare Nutrition Ploughing bull championship at the Irish Simmental Cattle Society’s stand on Tuesday.
This well-made son of Curaheen Tyson goes back on Curaheen Wakeman daughter Carbery Firefly.

Following close on his heels was 12-month-old Bearna-Dhearg James from Willie O’Halloran. This bull is out of homebred sire Bearna-Dhearg Duke while the dam is out of Curaheen Texas ET. Finally, closing off the top prices was the third prize winner Seaview Jay-Z. Sired by Kilbride Farm Newry, Jay-Z is out of a homebred Raceview King daughter and was exhibited by the Cork-based O’Leary family.
Entry numbers for the competition were back on previous years, with six bulls competing.
The judge was well-known breeder and current society vice-president Hugh Murray, who runs the Shiloh herd in Moate, Co Westmeath.
