The National Ploughing Association has announced that the National Ploughing Championships will open on Thursday and Friday after Wednesday's cancellation.

Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal about Wednesday's cancellation, Anna Marie McHugh of the NPA said the decision was taken for public safety reasons. She said insurance had nothing to do with it.

Day two had originally been delayed due to the arrival of storm Ali, but before 12 o’clock it became clear the wind would not die down and the site was closed for the day. Exhibitors have been allowed to enter the site and review their stands, with a view to rectifying them for tomorrow.

Rumours

McHugh said she did not know why there were rumours of Thursday also being at risk of cancellation. She said it was “similar to talking about the weather next week” and that the NPA had been assured there would be no wind incidents tomorrow.
