Generally dry, but some snow flurries are likely in eastern coastal counties.

Top temperatures only 2°C to 6°C.

Very cold and frosty on Monday night , with a few light snow flurries, but many places dry with lowest temperatures -2°C to -5°C.

Tuesday

Tuesday will be cold with frost clearing gradually, with some bright or short sunny spells developing.

Increasing clouds will bring some rain and sleet showers to Leinster and east Munster, during the afternoon and evening.

Top temperatures 3°C to 6°C.

Wind conditions will make it feel colder.

Tuesday night will be very cold and frosty, with snow showers becoming frequent across much of the country with accumulations expected in places by dawn.

A good deal of dry weather elsewhere, with just a few snow showers.

A severe frost too, with temperatures falling to between -2°C and -5°C.

Wednesday

Wednesday will be extremely cold, with some further falls of snow at times.

Snow showers will be heaviest and most frequent across the eastern half of the country, with further accumulations expected, especially in east Leinster.

Top temperatures only -1°C to +2°C, although it will feel much colder due to wind chill.

Frost, ice and lying snow will be persistent through out the day.

Wednesday night will be very cold and frosty again.

Further snow showers overnight, mainly across Ulster, Leinster and east Munster, with further accumulations, but a few may occur elsewhere too.

The frost will be penetrating and severe nationwide, with temperatures falling to between -5°C and -7°C in strong and gusty easterly winds.

Outlook

Thursday will be bitterly cold with some further snow showers scattered about, a few heavy.

Top temperatures just -1°C to +1°C although gusty easterly wind will make it feel colder due to wind chill.

Thursday night will see more persistent spells of heavy disruptive snow moving up from the southeast.

Significant accumulations are expected, especially over the southern half of the country.

Fresh to strong easterly winds will lead to blizzard conditions and some drifting in places.

Friday: further falls of heavy disruptive snow are expected for a time on Friday, mainly over central and northern parts of the country.

But brighter conditions, with scattered showers, should develop over Munster and south Leinster in the afternoon, with this clearance expected to extend northwards later in the day and overnight.
