The Scottish Crofting Federation (SCF) recently announced that Fiona Mandeville will take on the role of Company Secretary, following from the retirement of John Bannister MBE.
Fiona was appointed into the new role at the SCF’s recent AGM, where it was announced that Bannister would be stepping down after a decade of service, to allow more time to concentrate on his crofting business.

A recent survey of SCF members found their main concern for the future of crofting is securing an income.
Other worries raised included getting young people into crofting as well as the availability of crofts. Discussing the finding, chair of the SCF, Russell Smith said: “There are two issues here: Brexit could lead to reduced exports and increased imports with lower standards for beef and lamb and also leaving the Common Agricultural Policy will mean new support systems for agriculture, probably with a reduced overall total.”
