The Woulfe family includes five brothers who have all built successful careers in the agricultural industry.

Jim Woulfe is the eldest of the brothers and is CEO of Dairygold. His knowledge of the industry is rivalled by few.

His main advice is “to be open for change. Change is good and constant, so be ever-ready to embrace it. It may not be easy, but if you are willing to learn and develop to your potential, it is worth it.”

Ample opportunities for all backgrounds

Brother Michael is vice president of the enzyme business in Kerry Group. He says the agricultural industry has plenty of opportunities and looks for good talent all the time.

One point made by Michael was echoed throughout the day – you don't have to come from a farming background or have studied agricultural science to work in the agri industry.

“Whether it’s in the process industry or in sales and marketing, there are plenty of opportunities,” he said.

Meanwhile, Liam Woulfe is MD of Grassland Agro, a company which sources, produces and sells conventional and speciality fertiliser.

All accountancy needs are covered by Richard Woulfe, who runs his own firm. Specialising in farming and covering the home farm is youngest of the five, David.

He has been expanding the enterprise to meet market requirements since 2001, but says he enjoys the challenge farming throws up.

With all five brothers working in different areas of the industry, they all benefit from “getting a good general picture on the industry as a whole”.

For people who love to be active and involved in their local community, David thinks agriculture can provide the perfect healthy work-life balance.

“I love the fact it is centred around the local community. For me, there is nothing better than getting involved in the local village. I love meeting people, so being involved in agriculture here is perfect for me.”
