Midlands-based New Holland dealership WR Shaw Ltd has been served a notice of termination by New Holland.

This will come as a big shock to many, as Shaw is Ireland’s best-known New Holland dealer and one of the country’s largest tractor dealerships across all brands.

This news will bring an end to a 37-year relationship between New Holland and the Tullamore firm.

The Irish Farmers Journal understands that the two will officially part ways from February 2022.

Dispute

The Irish Farmers Journal believes the delivery of the termination notice follows a dispute between New Holland and the Offaly dealer after it bought another New Holland dealer, Lyons and Burton.

It is understood WR Shaw stepped in to buy Lyons and Burton (in Kilcock and Carlow) when one of its owners became ill last year.

It is known that both families, the Shaws and the Lyons, have been friends for decades and WR Shaw initially started as a sub-dealer to Lyons and Burton in 1984.

When asked for a comment, New Holland said: “New Holland are making some changes in Ireland and WR Shaw have been served notice. We will be in contact to share our plan in due course.

“Our priority remains to support all current and future customers, and for customer queries, please contact New Holland TopService on 00800-64 111 111.”

WR Shaw has promised to issue a full exclusive statement to the Irish Farmers Journal for next week’s edition.
