Auctioneer Joe McCarthy of Irish & European, Cork, is handling the sale of a sizeable circa 141-acre farm that is sure to attract plenty of competition. At Barrinclay, Mourneabbey, just outside Mallow, Co Cork, the farm includes a modern two-storey residence and a substantial farmyard all set on circa 141 acres of excellent quality land.

According to McCarthy, there isn’t “an ounce of waste” on this farm, with about 135 acres currently under tillage. Formerly run as a dairy enterprise, a number of farm roadways remain in place, running throughout the land, which is all in one sizeable block around the house. In all, the land is laid out in about nine large paddocks with significant frontage on to a secondary road that leads back on to the main N20 Mallow-to-Cork road.

The farm at Mournabbey also has the benefit of a working yard, with an extensive range of farm buildings. While the milking unit has been removed, the old dairy parlour is still in situ and could easily be returned to milking cows, according to McCarthy.

Other outbuildings include a 120-cubicle slatted shed (180’ x 90’), a machinery house with sliding doors, two covered silage pits and a range of other farm buildings, such as calf pens, grain stores and open sheds.

The two-storey house adjacent to the yard includes a lounge/dining room, sitting room, kitchen and five upstairs bedrooms. McCarthy describes the house as being in excellent condition and just a short distance from the town of Mallow. The farm also comes with entitlements to the tune of circa €12,899 per annum.

For sale by private treaty, Joe McCarthy of Irish & European, Cork, is guiding just over €1.76m, or €12,500/acre, for the entire, and says he has quite a bit of interest in the farm already.

Given the quality of the land and the significant infrastructure already in place, you would expect the farm at Mourneabbey not to remain on the market very long. CL
