There has been an almost €1bn increase in the value of infant formula exports from Ireland over the past 10 years. In value terms, infant formula now accounts for 40% of dairy exports.

The obvious question is why Irish farmers have not seen the rapid growth in exports of this premium product reflected in the milk price? Next week, we will look at who is harvesting the margin in the supply chain.
