Barryroe was once again the host showgrounds for the annual Irish Simmental Cattle Society southern club’s autumn calf finals.

Given the task of the judging the finals was well-known breeder Douglas Barr, himself no stranger to the role having judged the Simmental national finals in 2014.

He made quick work of the finals, awarding his overall champion to William O’Halloran’s Bearna-Dhearg James.

Having been awarded the yearling bull championship earlier in the day, Barr then tapped out the young bull as Simmental champion.

His decision was then backed further when the September 2017-born James was awarded the title of interbreed calf champion of the show.

The powerful young bull was out of homebred stock bull Bearna-Dhearg Duke, while the dam is Curaheen Texas daughter Ballyduff Breda.

Seaview Jolene continued her run of form on the southern circuit, placing top of the line in the yearling heifer championship and reserve overall Simmental champion. Bred by the O’Leary family, this stylish young heifer is sired by Kilbride Farm Delboy.

Keith and Luke Vickery secured the last two club final championships, placing first in both the weanling bull and the weanling heifer classes.

Taking the weanling bull championship was the November 2017-born Carbery Juniper. This classy November 2018-born calf is sired by Curaheen Tyson and out of a homebred dam Carbery Gretel.

On to the weanling heifer championship and it went the way of Carbery Jaylee. This heifer is out of well-known Kilbride Farm Bantry.
