Last week’s beef kill was just 174 head shy of throughput reaching 40,000 head.
The kill of 39,826 was 563 head higher than the previous week and some 4,882 head above the corresponding week in 2016. The higher throughput of recent weeks in particular brought the annual kill to 1,578,901, an increase of 91,034 on the same week last year.
There is a continued strong appetite from factory agents for slaughter-fit stock. Steers and heifers are trading in general on a base of €3.85/kg and €3.95/kg respectively, with regular sellers securing higher prices.
