Ennis mart had just over 700 animals through the ring at Thursdays sale of general cattle. Store bullocks were the highlight of the days trading with a pen of real good quality spring 24-born Charolais bullocks weighing 548kg selling for €3,320 (€6.06/kg). Good quality store bullocks were generally making between €5-€6/kg. Good ones are scare at the moment with buyers having to dig deep for replacement stock. High exports and a solid cattle trade all spring and summer has meant a lot of cattle have been already moved. A good grass year has meant other farmers are delaying moving off the forward stores as they are looking at the weanling trade and seeing what they will have to pay to replace them. The top third of bullocks in the 400-500kg weight category came in at €5.95/kg with the average bullocks coming in at €5.17/kg. Heavier bullocks in the 500-600kg weight bracket came in at €5.37/kg for the top third. The top third of bullocks weighing over 600kg sold for €5.03/kg.

These two February 2023-born Charolais bullocks weighed 665kg and sold for €3,550 (€5.34/kg).
This September 2017-born Limousin cow weighed 840kg and sold for €3,910 (€4.65/kg).
