A bill to protect farmers from claims made by hill walkers injured on their land is being advanced by the Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring.

A spokesperson for his Department said it wanted to support continued access to land for recreational use but “the rights of landowners must be considered”. He said it hoped legislation for a National Indemnity Scheme would be in place this year.
