Charolais breeders from across Northern Ireland flocked to Clogher Valley Show to partake in the inaugural Bank of Ireland National Charolais Championship.

Clogher Valley celebrated its 100th show this year and saw big numbers across the sections, but the Charolais breed stole the limelight.

Not only did the UK Charolais Society host its finals, the breed champion later in the day went on to claim the champion of champion title of the show.

The animal ticking the boxes for all the judges was Brownhill Mo, shown by the Devine brothers. This two-year-old in-calf heifer placed top of her class, claimed female championship and overall Charolais champion before being awarded the champion of champions award.

Sire behind the champion was the 12,000gns Maerdy Fiend, while the dam is homebred cow Indigo, who also picked up a number of top placings as part of her show career.

Mo herself is no stranger to winning ways, having secured a number of breed championships at other summer shows, as well as standing reserve overall breed champion at this year’s Balmoral Show.

The Connolly family were out in force exhibiting no less than 17 exhibits on the day. Their dedication was duly rewarded picking up numerous championships throughout the day’s proceedings.

Top of the outfit was their junior heifer Brigadoon Nevada. This stylish young heifer is sired by the herd’s senior stock bull Goldies Icon, who has produced numerous winners for the herd.

This heifer also went on to claim second reserve in the beef interbreed champion of champions.

The junior bull championship and also overall male champion was awarded to Killadeas Norman, bred by S and D Bothwell, Ballinamallard. He is sired by their stock bull Gwenog Braveheart and homebred Dainty, both of whom have bred many prizewinners and sale-toppers for the Bothwell family.

Brigadoon Nebulus bred by WD and JA Connolly, another Goldies Icon son, took the reserve spots for the junior bull championship and overall male championship. His mother Heather, also a homebred cow, was a successful show heifer for the Connolly family in her day.
