Each year at Dairy Day, the Skills Hub aims to solve a wide range of problems and challenges that are typical on a dairy farm. The Punchestown Event Centre offers us the space and capacity to provide real life demonstrations with real equipment and animals. The topics for the Skills Hub this year once again tackle the emerging and growing challenges on Irish dairy farms such as:

  • Managing more calves in a tight space of time.
  • Labour efficiency to manage more stock.
  • Recognising the environmental challenges.
  • Preparing for dry cow management using less antibiotics.
  • Starting grassland management.
  • Managing more than one farm – what skills are necessary.
  • Each demonstration will run for 30 minutes, but will be repeated again later in the day. The format is a mix of talking with key industry leaders, show and tell with live demonstrations, equipment on display and questions from you on problems that you encounter and need solutions to.

Industry experts from the Department of Agriculture, Teagasc, dairy farmers from Ireland and England and vets discuss the key issues and show farmers what they think is the right thing to do. The Skills Hub will challenge your thinking, but also your actions, and thus make your work more enjoyable and more efficient.
