Glen South Farm, the company owned by businessman Frank Murphy of Monex Financial Services has swooped in to buy the substantial 101-acre farm in Derrynagowna, Glen South, near Banteer. The property, which was put to the market before Christmas, was sold in the last six weeks by Michael O’Donovan of Sherry FitzGerald O’Donovan, Mallow.

Guided prior to sale at €1.1m, it is believed that the final price on the holding was circa €900,000, but this was not confirmed.

Monex Financial Services is a company that is run out of Killarney employing 120 people. Murphy founded the business in the 1990s. He and his wife, Teresa McSweeney, took over Glen South Farm in 2012 and have developed it to become one of the most modern and advanced beef operations in the country.

The land

The lands themselves, for the majority, are high quality, with 10 acres slightly heavier than the rest. The holding is divided into five or six main sections, with a few smaller paddocks around the main farmyard area. Well maintained, the holding has been kept in good condition. It has stock fencing across all of the paddocks, a private water supply, as well as a natural water supply.

The paddocks slope gently and face in a southwesterly direction, but still have the capability of handling machinery.

There is also road frontage onto two road, which provides extensive access to the paddocks.

The farmyard area is a substantial package in itself. It contains a range of farm buildings for a variety of purposes and centrally located is the main slatted shed.

This unit is large and has the capability of handling over 100 cows and 200 lighter animals. The shed is slatted and contains cubicles. The farmyard contains six buildings in total, with storage facilities available for machinery, livestock and silage, along with a calf shed.

The residence is an impressive four-bed farmhouse located beside the yard area and centrally located in proximity to the lands. A large home, it has a traditional country feel.

The property was offered by private treaty and the sale was welcomed by auctioneer Michael O’Donovan.
