Camera at the Mart attended the weekly cattle sale at Swatragh Mart, where the highlight was the show and sale of Charolais suckled calves.

Over 300 head of cattle were offered for sale and a huge turnout of buyers led to a super trade for strong weanlings.

This Charolais heifer, born May 2019 and weighing 322kg, sold for £830.

Commenting on the sale, mart manager Paul Coyle said Monday’s sale saw a terrific show of top-quality calves and this was heavily reflected in prices.

He added that buyers were extremely active on stronger weanlings.

These animals were realising prices comparable with those on offer for forward stores, with calves at the top end of the market returning prices of £3/kg.

This Charolais heifer, born February 2019 and weighing 380kg, sold for £750.

Paul said the Charolais show and sale is one of the stand-out annual events held at the mart and is attracting new buyers each year from across the province.

Leading the trade for steers was a 346kg Charolais animal which made £960, or 277p/kg. However, the top price paid for a weanling was £1,075 for a 456kg bullock, or 236p/kg.
