One of the first totally online sales to take place in Ireland and the UK since the pandemic started met a great response. The spring dairy sale of Holstein, British Friesian and Fleckvieh usually held at Harrison and Hetherington’s Borderway mart in Carlisle saw a top of 4,600gns. In excess of 100 people registered to buy for the sale, which resulted in an 80% clearance of the 70 bulls on offer to average at £2,600.

Topping the sale at £4,600 was Warnelview Norton from Kevin and Christine Wilson of Wood Farm near Carlisle. This young bull was bred from the EX97 classified cow Warnelview Final Cut who, to date, has produced over 130 tonnes of milk in eight lactations. Sired by Unix, Norton was the choice of R Agnew based outside Stranraer.

The Wilson outfit sold 10 bulls in total to average over £3,000. These included Warnelview Romano at £4,200, a Skywalker son from the Ruby cow family and Warnelview Merlin who sold for £4,000, he was a Lighthouse son from the Minnie cow family.

British Friesians sold to a top of £3,000 for Nerewater Alphabet from Richard Bell. He was sired by Collycroft Solo and from a 100t grand dam now classified EX93.

A consignment of 10 Fleckvieh bulls were consigned by S.Q. Fleckvieh Genetics to average almost £3,000 to a top of £3,500.
