Cattle export firm Viastar is seeking young beef breed bulls for export. The Co Meath firm wants bulls weighing from 200kg to 350kg, born last autumn, all breeds except Friesians.
It also wants bulls weighing 350kg to 450kg, born in spring and autumn 2019, again all breeds except Friesians accepted.
The firm told the Irish Farmers Journal it is now starting to buy and hopes to export the stock to Turkey in June or July, after sufficient stock are purchased and complete 21-day quarantine and depending on market conditions applying at the time.
The firm says that it will give a price for stock only after inspection and that all necessary COVID-19 regulations will be in place.
Secure payment will be made on the day of weighing, it says.
Turkish market
Turkey imports some 1m head of beef cattle, with Ireland a popular market for the sourcing of live cattle.
Cattle are exported from Ireland at approximately 300kg before being finished in Turkey for a market that consumes nearly 15kg of beef per person per year.
