The founder of the business is Ballybofey native, Catriona Mulhern, who now lives in Milford with her partner Paul McGinley, a Donegal man who is also involved in the unique enterprise.
In January, Catriona decided to give up her job to focus on her family and set up the pop-up-pub business.
The pop-up pub provides the unit with a standing capacity of 50, along with the flooring, lighting, bar, optics, taps, a smoking shelter and furniture for 20 people seated. Customers can then add to the package by including extra seating, refrigeration, heating, cooler and tap systems, catering facilities, bar staff, an extra marquee, lighting, Karaoke, a DJ or a dance floor.
Commenting on the launch, owner of The Traveller’s Inn, Michael McBride said, “We’re very excited to be unveiling the pop-up-pub in The Traveller’s Inn and we wish Catriona and Paul every success in their new business venture. The pop-up-pub is a great idea and we’re happy to support the business in any way we can."
Catriona said, “It’s great to be partnering with Michael McBride and The Traveller’s Inn on the launch. I know from working within the industry how difficult things are for publicans and we’re determined to work side by side with them to add value to their business. In fact, we’ve already had lots of requests from venues seeking to rent the pop-up pub for festivals and other key calendar dates when pubs need extra space.”
Prices for renting the unit start from €300 and customers provide their own alcohol. The business also plans to cater for children’s parties and is currently designing a ‘party hut’ where kids have their own party venue in their back garden and houses are spared any mess.
