Isla blooms again for Irish tour

Scottish singer and songwriter Isla Grant has a special place in her heart for Ireland.

It was here that her career took off and she has not looked back since. Isla, who played to major concert crowds in Australia and New Zealand as well as in other countries, has sold a massive amount of albums over the last two decades.

She is currently over here for a series of concert dates and has released her latest single, a reworking of the old country classic When The Roses Bloom Again, to coincide with the Irish tour which runs until the 11 March.

She is accompanied by her husband Al, who is synonymous with the songs of Jim Reeves, and Glen Flynn from Tullamore.

This week sees them in An Glór Theatre, Ennis on Thursday 14 February, the INEC Acoustic Club, Killarney on Friday, Dunamaise Theatre, Portlaoise on Saturday and the Sligo Park Hotel on Sunday 17 February. See tomkellypromotions.com for full list of tour dates.

Abbey folk rally for Galway Hospice

The young people of Abbeyknockmoy have just released a 15-track album in support of Galway Hospice.

They are following in the footsteps of the more senior members of the local community who released the popular Down at Mannion’s Bar album two years ago, which raised substantial funds for the hospice too.

The Sound of Abbey was recorded at Sun Street Studios in Tuam and was produced by Kenny Ralph and arranged by John P Keane.

Those who feature on the album are Aleisha Crowe, Aisling Delaney, Laura and Mary Finn, Paul Flaherty, Ruth Lally, Robin Moran, Keith Boyle, Frank Carlton, Sinéad Coleman, Claire Keane, Dan Jackson, Dylan Keane, Lennon Doyle, Niamh Fahy, Joey Boyle and Tara and Caithlin Dunne.

Brady Fest returns to Galway

Johnny Brady returns to the Clayton Hotel in Galway for his annual Brady Festival dancing weekend from Friday to Sunday 1-3 March.

The Antrim man will be joined by Jimmy Buckley and his band on the Friday night show while Jim Devine from Tyrone will be his guest on the show on Saturday night, 2 March.

This song goes down a treat with dancers every time we play it

Johnny and band will be joined by some special guests for the closing dance on Sunday afternoon from 2-4pm.

He has just issued a new version of Hillbilly Rock as a radio promotional single ahead of the trip to Galway.

“This song goes down a treat with dancers every time we play it,” says Johnny.

“It has a great beat and is very catchy and I think it captures the kind of energy we bring to our shows.”

Enquiries for the Brady Fest Weekend can be directed to the Clayton Hotel reception at 091 721900.

Chris on the circuit

After many years of overseas tours and shows with various companies, Chris Dallat launched his one-man show on the social dancing circuit last year.

The Antrim man is more than pleased with how things have gone since then.

From his days playing in Irish bars in Florida to working on cruise ships and the Irish music holidays in Spain and Portugal, Chris is well known to many folks around the island of Ireland and further afield.

His debut single, Alone With You, is an uptempo Faron Young song to which he adds his own piano style. Chris can be contacted at 0044 7803388203.
