DAERA has confirmed that preliminary checks are being carried out on 2017 Single Applications to allow errors to be corrected by farmers without financial penalty.

This is the second year that the department has undertaken the process which is part of the European Commission’s CAP simplification package announced in November 2015.

The department confirmed this week that letters advising farmers of errors identified in checks will be issued from Friday (9 June).

Farmers have until 19 June to respond to the department and amend applications. If no action is taken to resolve the error before 19 June, the business may be subject to financial penalties or delayed payments.

Errors being checked include claiming for a field which is also claimed by another business (duplicate field), missing land use codes, claiming for more than the maximum eligible area, claiming a field not recognised in DAERA’s Land Parcel Identification System and completing field data on the 2017 SAF but not applying for BPS, greening or areas of natural constraint payments.
