Dairy Geyser, the Cork-based company that specialises in oil-fired instant hot water boilers, has added a new product to its mix.

Its recently engineered temperature assurance system helps to ensure that the temperature of the wash solution in the milking machine is stable throughout the wash cycle.

Syl Lyster from Dairy Geyser says that the new product is a game-changer and is borne out of the new hot water requirements as a result of the country going chlorine-free in its wash routines.

As has been well documented, alternatives to chlorine are not as effective and to compensate, chlorine-free wash routines require extra hot washes and extra high water temperature.

One of the main issues when it comes to chlorine-free wash routines is an insufficient quantity of hot water

The new system from Dairy Geyser heats the water used for the hot wash, but also maintains the temperature of the water in the wash. It does this by detecting the temperature of the water in the wash trough and when that temperature drops below a preset level the pump will kick in, which sucks the water from the wash trough through the Dairy Geyser, heating it up to the required temperature for a set period. It does this during and without interfering with the wash cycle.

Dairy Geyser is now available with an ancillary device to heat the water in the wash trough as it is circulating through the milking machine.

One of the main issues when it comes to chlorine-free wash routines is an insufficient quantity of hot water, both at the start and the end of the wash cycle.

The temperature of the water at the start of the cycle should be 750C to 800C and it should be above 500C by the end of the wash cycle, eight to 10 minutes later.

Achieving this temperature is extremely difficult, particularly in larger plants where there is more surface area of pipes and more places for heat to be lost from the water.

With the new device, the temperature of the water in the wash solution can be maintained at whatever temperature the farmer desires, as the wash cycle will be heated through the Dairy Geyser boiler.

The standard Dairy Geyser costs €2,850 plus VAT

At the end of the wash cycle, the wash line going from the trough to the Dairy Geyser is automatically rinsed with cold water and the machine is set up for normal use.

The Dairy Geyser device is made in Cork and uses diesel to instantly heat water. It is capable of heating water from ambient temperature to 800C at a rate of between 20l/min and 30l/min, depending on machine specification.

The standard Dairy Geyser costs €2,850 plus VAT and the inline heater attachment costs an additional €1,950 plus VAT and this can be retrofitted to existing models.

Lyster says that the machine has been extensively tested to withstand the corrosiveness of acid or detergent wash solutions.
