Dawn and Dunbia notify merger to competition watchdog

By on
Dawn Meats and Dunbia have notified the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) of their proposed deal.
Dawn Meats and Dunbia have notified the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) of their proposed deal.

The notification took place this Friday and the notice published by the CCPC opens a two-week phase I investigation into the proposed merger.

The two companies have agreed that Dawn would acquire Dunbia’s two plants in the Republic and a new joint venture would bring together their businesses across the UK.

If approved, the transaction would make Dawn take over ABP in terms of the volumes of beef processed.

Farming organisations have argued that the deal would reduce competition for farmers’ cattle and sheep.

The phase 1 investigation, which must conclude by 30 June, can clear the merger or lead to the opening of a phase II, deeper investigation into its competition implications.
