The South of Ireland Branch of the Suffolk Sheep Society had a bumper Sale at Roscrea Mart on Saturday last when demand outstripped supply for Shearling Rams. Ram lambs had an 82% clearance with an average price of €1,157.
It was a double celebration for Annakisha and Clyda flocks of Arthur and Susan O’Keeffe, Annakisha, Mallow, Co Cork, and their dedicated family when they took the Supreme Champion and Reserve Champion awards.
When tapping out the Champions, Judge Melvin Stuart of the Birness flock awarded Supreme Champion of the Show to a January-born twin lamb sired by Cairness High Achiever out of a ewe sired by Castlewellan Sportsman owned by Arthur O’Keeffe. This champion was sold to Jimmy Douglas from Scotland and made €6,000. Reserve Champion was another twin lamb sired by Rookery Classic out of a ewe sired by Cairness Almighty the Second, owned by Susan O’Keeffe and sold for €6,000 to Messrs. Podge & Jack Bolger from Enniscorthy Co Wexford.
