DEAR SIR:

I have a simple question. Why am I being discriminated against? I am a 46-year-old dairy farmer, married with four children under 12.

We milk 65 cows and, because of the possibility of leasing 40 acres beside the parlour, this could increase to 100 cows and create a viable unit into the future. To do so we need to invest heavily in the farmyard. I will qualify for a 40% grant as against 60% if I was 10 years younger.

On an investment of €120,000, that’s a difference of €24,000, so please explain to me why this isn’t discrimination.
