This week Patrick Donohoe reports on yet another horrific dog attack. It is an all too frequent occurrence. As we head into the peak risk period, with heavily pregnant ewes and lambs being turned out to grass, we are likely to hear more reports.

Given the risk level and financial consequences, farmers should be looking at the option of insurance cover. In most polices, it is not automatically added to the insurance schedule and has to be requested. All farmers should be vigilant over the coming months.

Meanwhile, An Garda Síochána and the Department must ensure dog microchip laws are enforced.
