The Brexit circus continues to trundle on like some kind of slow-motion car crash, as everyone in this country sits and waits and wonders how it's going to affect us.

It’s hard to believe the situation has got to where it is, you really couldn’t make up something as absolutely ridiculous!

I never was much of a fan of Theresa May, but I really have a new-found respect for the woman. You’d have to admire her tenacious determination, even in the face of almost definite failure!

God almighty himself couldn’t bring a deal back that would be passed by the British Parliament.

Bickering

The House of Commons always puts me in mind of a bunch of eight-year-olds bickering in the school playground.

It is looking reasonably certain, that some kind of extension will be granted by Europe, but for the life of me, I can’t see what good a short extension is going to be. But what do I know?

The whole thing is being kicked about like a political football

Personally, I want Britain to remain part of the EU.

Of course, all my reasons for wanting this are selfish ones.

Beef exports being number one and, living only a few miles from the border, the freedom we have crossing it being number two, so I suppose I have a slight bias towards this.

Nothing seems to be able to be agreed and the whole thing is being kicked about like a political football, with one side trying to score points at the expense of the other. All at a time where they need solidarity more than ever before.

Second referendum

Is a second referendum not an obvious choice, especially seeing as the British people were so ill-informed for the first one.

Immigration was used as propaganda, as well as more money for the NHS, but a lot of simple core stuff was just buried.

The short-term effect on the British economy is going to be huge and, as our closest trading neighbours, there is obviously going to be an effect on Ireland as well.

The Brexiteers would, of course, be up in arms at the very thought, but I feel that if a second vote were to be had in the morning, then it would be a vote to stay.

Maybe history will tell us that leaving Europe was the correct decision and Britain will rise like a Phoenix from the ashes.

But personally, I think, one of the main reasons for not even contemplating a second vote is the British stiff upper lip mentality - 'we’ve made our decision and we’re sticking by it; we can’t be seen to lose face by saying maybe we’ve made a mistake and should ask the question again'.

Nothing like cutting off your nose to spite your face!
