The message was clear – there wasn’t a round bale to be seen from Killarney to Cahirciveen, back to Kenmare and over Moll’s Gap back into Killarney.

A sign of the good weather, it was square bales of hay all the way.

There was an odd topper to be seen in action to manage a few rushes, but, other than that, I heard there was turf being loaded, hay saved and the sucklers and lambs looked in top order.

Tired cyclists

Interestingly, tourists and tired cyclists were offered the opportunity to donate €50 towards a mountain lamb at the top of Molls Gap – ‘to preserve the tradition’.

The sign asking persons to donate towards a sheep at the top of Molls Gap - the intention is to preserve the tradition of keeping ewes and lambs on mountain grazing.

As for agri participants, there were plenty of farmers in lycra.

I’m reliably informed John Lynch from Kelliher Feeds in Tralee completed the trip, as did Liam Woulfe, the Grassland Agro boss.

Dale Farm boss and Wexford native Nick Whelan had a winner on the freebies after the race with free ice cream for all those in attendance.

They are obviously still dancing at the crossroads in Wexford.
