It's now available in Ireland with prices starting at €13,990 plus VAT, for the entry level 1.5 litre turbo-diesel van.

Ford claims that the new Transit Courier delivers 10% more load volume than some rivals. It has a longer load length, better access width via sliding side doors and full steel bulkhead, with 2.3 cubic metres of load space behind it. There are six cargo tie-down points, including four rear side-mounted points to avoid obstruction of the floor area.

This is Ford’s first small Transit can be powered by either a 1.5-litre diesel engine for 3.9 l/100 km (72.4 mpg) or 1.6-litre diesel engine for 3.7 l/100 km (76.3 mpg) and 97 g/km CO2.

All engines have extended one-year/30,000 km service intervals. Ford claims that the vans have been designed for ease of servicing and repair.

A multi-piece rear bumper, rugged body-side protection and high-mounted front and rear lights help to reduce the cost of accident damage and lead to lower insurance premiums. Expensive fuelling errors are avoided by the standard-fit, Ford Easy Fuel system.

Then Transit Courier has a maximum payload capacity of 660kg. It is wide enough to carry a standard Euro pallet. Twin rear cargo doors with an opening angle of up to 158 degrees are standard with single or dual sliding side load doors available.

The cabin offers an impressive range of stowage features including a large centre console capable of storing A4 documents and small laptops, a full-width overhead stowage shelf and a drawer under the front passenger seat. Drivers can use the unique new MyFord Dock to store, mount and charge their mobile devices such as phones and navigation systems.

The Transit Courier introduces new safety features to the segment, and the Commercial Kombi offers side curtain airbags, knee airbags and second-row seat belt minders as part of the restraint system that also includes driver, passenger and side thorax airbags. It comes with the Ford SYNC with Emergency Assistance.

The new Transit Courier’s chassis has been fitted with new dual-rate rear springs that claim to help to deliver better driving dynamics under all load conditions. The springs claim to enable the vehicle to offer a smooth ride even when unladen, while maintaining good handling and manoeuvrability.

The van is aimed at the small delivery and business sector. It adds another model to the Ford van range that also includes the new Transit, Transit Custom and Transit Connect.
