For some, it’s about putting on a pair of wellies, embracing rural Ireland and discovering copious amounts of information about the latest in machinery, livestock or agricultural news.

Fashion

However, for others, the Tullamore Show is all about the glitz and glamour, and who wouldn’t be interested, especially when the best dress lady stands to win €1,000 and a hotel stay in a four-star hotel.

For those with a particular interest in fashion, there will be a number of catwalk events promoting and highlighting current clothing trends. This extensive lineup will have a variety of events and will host a number of fashion professionals.

The whole family can get involved in the fashion aspect of the show, as there are also prizes for the best-dressed man, glamorous granny, traditional farmer and even best-dressed dog.

Shearing

For those with less stylish interests, Tullamore Show will showcase a number of junior and senior sheep shearing competitions.

Sheep farmers from all over Ireland will demonstrate the technical skill and effort involved in shearing sheep. Shearers will be revealing the expertise involved, using the various methods such as blade and machine.

Four-time all-Ireland champion Ivan Scott will be shearing live for spectators and demonstrating the speed and accuracy involved with competitive sheep shearing. World record holder George Graham, who sheared 491 sheep in nine hours, will display the common Bowen method of sheep shearing.

After all the sheep have been sheared, leading wool merchant Seamus Dooley will teach farmers how to store wool correctly.

Staying on the sheep topic, the Tullamore sheep dog trials offer an excellent opportunity for people to see top-class dogs in action as they attempt to round up flocks of sheep around an obstacle course. This is an exciting competition for both young and experienced competitors.

Spectators can expect to be amazed at the obedience and precise actions of the sheep dogs. The eight fastest runs, without errors, go through to the final, which will surely be a nail-biting experience to watch.

Farm skills

A highlight of this year’s show is Macra’s all-Ireland farm skills competition. Tullamore Show hosts the national final, which will see a number of Macra clubs from throughout Ireland compete in order to be crowned best farm skills winners.

Members of the different Macra clubs will be putting their machine, fencing and various other farming skills to the test in order to win the title. The objective of the competition is to highlight the skills involved with modern farming, while also demonstrating the importance of farm safety.

Cookery

While at the show, there is a strong probability of being lured into the cookery demonstration tent.
