Cloughjordan cookery classes

A feast of the senses is promised at Cloughjordan House this year, with the cookery school’s new classes. Sarah Baker, who runs the school, is working in association with the Tipperary Food Producers network and well-known food producers and food writers from around the country, including Pat Whelan, Veronica Molloy, Arun Kapil and Colleen O’Hara.

The programme will start on 25 January with a half-day class run in association with Glenisk yogurts. Prices start at €85 per person. Cloughjordan House also offers on-site accommodation, with special offers for those booking a class.

Georgina Campbell course

A new learning and development programme for the hospitality industry is being rolled out by food writer Georgina Campbell and business mentoring company Conor Kenny and Associates.

The aim of the initiative is to help Irish tourism to reach its potential by assisting businesses through becoming more customer-aware. Six classes will be held in venues across the country over four months, with courses led by Georgina, Conor Kenny and other industry experts.

Ballymaloe Slow Food event

Ballymaloe is hosting a Slow Food event on Thursday, 30 January, at 7pm, to celebrate St Brigid, the Irish patron of dairy workers.

Darina Allen will speak about St Brigid and demonstrate how to make butter from Jersey cream.

Eileen Cowhig will show attendees how to make St Brigid’s crosses using local rushes.

Tickets are €8 for the general public and €6 for Slow Food members. Proceeds raised will support the East Cork Slow Food Mobile Kitchen Project.

There will be coffee and homemade biscuits on arrival.
