Gardaí in Co Kildare are still seeking to identify the owners of a number of valuable quad bikes recovered in a search of a premises in Carbury, Co Kildare, earlier this month.

The recovered quads are a red Suzuki Kingquad 400 with 423hours on the clock, a red 2005 Honda 250trx with 19,000km on the clock, a green 2015 Yamaha Kodiak 700 with a black and red agri-box and a green Yamaha Grizzly 400 with 8,800miles on the clock.

Any enquiries can be directed to Garda Pat Mulcahy at Athy Garda Station on 059-863 1669. A fifth recovered quad has already been returned to its owner.

Last year, approximately 75 quads were reported stolen and of these approximately 60 were farm quads, Detective Garda Eugene O’Sullivan of the Garda Stolen Vehicle Unit said.

“Only 40% of these machines had had their frame or serial number recorded by the owner. When quads are recovered by gardaí the frame or serial number quickly identifies the machine’s make, model, year, etc.

“Without these details it is time consuming to trace their origin, especially for older machines.”

“It is therefore fundamental that owners of quads record the frame or serial number. It helps to also fit security devices and to engrave or mark a vehicle with an Eircode or other identification.

“However thieves often change parts, plastics and attachments to remove markings and to disguise stolen quads.”
