The Gibson family from outside Broughshane, Co Antrim, has taken the difficult decision to sell their herd of dairy cows, following the death of Mr James Gibson last December. He was killed in an attack by a bull.

In total, 90 Holstein Friesian and Fleckvieh cows, along with 17 in-calf heifers, will go under the hammer at Ballymena Livestock Mart on Friday 10 May.

The herd is currently averaging 8,300l on twice-a-day milking, with the last bulk tank test showing 4.36% butterfat and 3.29% protein.

Included in the sale will be a choice heifer out of one of the best cows in the herd, and sired from a Mogul stockbull.

Proceeds from the sale of the heifer will go to Air Ambulance, which attended Mr Gibson’s accident last year.

For further information, contact Peter Gibson on 079-583-03881, or call Ballymena Mart on 028-256-33470.
