Training courses for GLAS farmers can now begin, two years after the scheme was launched.

All 36,700 farmers in GLAS I and II must complete the training course by 31 December 2017, while approximately 14,000 GLAS III farmers have a longer period in which to complete the course.

The six-hour training course will provide an introduction to GLAS, the regulations and objectives of the scheme and the funding available

Once the training is completed with an approved GLAS trainer, and verified by the Department of Agriculture, farmers will be paid €158 each.

Each trainer will receive €80 per farmer in their group.

The Agricultural Consultants Association (ACA) welcomed the GLAS training online system, which officially went live on the Department’s website on Monday.

“ACA members throughout the country have been busy preparing training course material.

"These courses will be made available to all GLAS farmers and will be targeted at a local level to minimise the disruption to the farmer’s daily work,” said ACA president Laura Johnston, adding that training course details would be available on www.aca.ie.
