Australia – milk production weakens in December

Australian milk production for December stood at 846m litres, which is down 2% on the same month a year previous. This brings Australian milk supply for the first half of its 2020/21 milking season to a cumulative 4.9bn litres, which is less than 1% ahead of the previous year.

Brazil – beef exports fall in January

Brazilian beef exports for the first month of 2021 were down 8% on the same month last year to just over 107,000t. The decline was led by a 36% drop in frozen beef shipments to Hong Kong, as well as weaker shipments to Chile, Uruguay, Egypt, Russia and Saudi Arabia.

US – beef exports drop 5% for 2020

US beef exports for December stood at just under 120,000t, which was up 8% year on year. Despite the growth in December shipments, US beef exports finished 2020 at 1.25m tonnes, which is down 5% on the levels US beef exports hit in 2019.

Europe – wheat production to fall sharply in 2021

In its latest supply and demand report, the USDA is forecasting wheat production will fall sharply in Europe this year to just 136m tonnes – down almost 19m tonnes on last year. The reduced production is forecast to lead to a sharp drop in EU wheat exports in 2021 to just 27m tonnes.
