There is a “growing anger” among agricultural science teachers with the Department of Education.

The Irish Agricultural Science Teachers’ Association (IASTA) has welcomed the Department’s commitment to add additional questions to the exam paper, but pointed out that neither students nor teachers have seen a sample exam paper for the new course.

“We have never seen an exam paper and this is a major hurdle in preparing a class for examination,” IASTA told the Irish Farmers Journal.

Some school management boards have also told teachers that it will not be possible to do experiments until Halloween and IASTA says this will have a further impact on student learning.

“We would welcome some clarification on this. This is more time lost,” IASTA said, calling for more engagement from education authorities.
